The Gospel Commission demands that Christian witnessing permeates every area of our lives. It is not position or time-sensitive; it doesn't belong only to pastors or Church employees. Zeal for God and His cause should "fire our hearts with a determination to tell the story of redeeming love. . . It is the privilege of every Christian, not only to look for, but to hasten the coming of the Savior (Maranatha, p. 128).
Adventist-laymen's Services and Industries casts a vision that helps lay people see themselves as active witnesses for Jesus. Its mission is to inspire and train professionals and private sector business people to integrate their vocations with the gospel commission and ministry. Thus, its motto: Sharing Christ in the Marketplace.
There are approximately 1,000 members in the nearly 60-year-old organization who make telling others about Jesus the main objective of their daily work. Whether they operate a for-profit or a non-profit business, or function in a management role, they seek to share Christ in traditional and unique ways--praying with clients, taking time from work to devote to public evangelism, organizing church plants, sharing literature when traveling. The list goes on. Members leave no stone unturned when it comes to answering the question, "How can I share Christ today?"
ASI can be aptly summed up with the words of William Carey (1761-1834), missionary to India: "I cobble shoes to pay expenses but soul winning is my business."
