Better Life Broadcasting Network began operating in 1990 out of Grants Pass, Ore. The network originally consisted of one low power channel that ran programming for only a few hours each day. In less than two decades, Better Life has steadily expanded into the Central Oregon area, with plans to soon reach 7 counties in Portland.
Between 1990 and 2000, the network purchased several additional low-power channels that were run as 3ABN affiliates. Ten percent of the programming was created in Better Life's local studio. In the next few years, Better Life expanded to include a network of sixteen stations.
In 2000, Better Life began looking for a full power station to purchase that would carry full broadcast privileges with Dish Network, DirecTV and local cable companies. In July 2006, a full power station came on the market in the Roseburg and Eugene area.
The seller originally asked $4 million for the station, but through a series of miraculous and faith-testing events, Better Life was eventually able to negotiate a price of only $900,000. DirecTV began airing the new Better Life station on August 12, and Dish Network and local cable stations will soon follow. Viewer responses in Central Oregon have already been favorable.
Most recently, Better Life has signed an agreement to purchase a digital low power station in Portland. The motivated seller has agreed to a purchase price of $700,000, and will accept a $100,000 donation receipt toward that price. The seller has also expanded coverage of the station from 5 counties and 51 Adventist churches to 7 counties and 60 Adventist churches in the Portland area.
Station managers Ron and Marta Davis are trusting the Lord to inspire donors to provide the needed funds to purchase the Portland station in the same miraculous way He provided for all the others.
