There was no "Great Disappointment" on Oct. 22 for Better Life Broadcasting Network of Grants Pass, Ore. Funds came through to purchase a new low power television station in the Portland/Vancouver area. Better Life is now in the asset purchase agreement phase of that transaction.
This is the previously reported purchase that involves a seller willing to accept a $100,000 tax-deductible receipt toward the purchase. The seller also re-engineered the station's broadcast configuration at his own expense to include two additional counties, for a total of seven.
Better Life is now broadcasting via DirecTV and Charter Cable throughout the four-county Central Oregon area, including Benton, Coos, Douglas and Lane counties (about 15,000 square miles). The network is in the process of developing a fiber network system to feed Dish Network and Comcast Cable into those areas, as well.
The Better Life office has received hundreds of calls from new viewers—a sharp and noticeable increase in viewer responses. Marta Davis, manager of Better Life, estimates that the callers "are about 95 percent delighted and about 95 percent non-Adventist." The network is excited about expanding broadcast coverage to the Portland/Vancouver area, and is currently raising funds to construct and operate the station.
