Urgent Need—Golden Opportunity
A young Adventist businesswoman who is responsible for placing 300-400 Chinese university students in summer jobs by late April or early May is eager for these rising stars of China to see a better side of American culture that the casinos in which some of them are traditionally placed. This is a golden opportunity to get personally acquainted with some of the future leaders of China. She has taken it upon herself to make sure they make connections with Adventists and ASI members who fit any of the following categories:
1. ASI members who are able to provide full-time (minimum 30 hours/wk) entry-level summer employment for Chinese university students
2. ASI members and/or Adventist families who could sponsor a student to work in an Adventist institution or ministry for the summer
3. Adventist families who could provide loving homes for these students while they are here in the United States for summer
4. Adventist Ministries/Institutions who could provide meaningful summer employment to a student with or without outside sponsorship
5. Adventists with ideas or contacts that could facilitate positive placements
Those who do not fit the above categories are encouraged to pray that these students will be placed where they can see the best of our culture (see EV 570). Students in this Summer Work and Travel (SWT) Program come with valid J-1 (Cultural Exchange) visas, CVs, and a range of abilities and language proficiencies. They are allowed to be in the United States for 3 to 4 months beginning no sooner than June 1 and ending no later than Sept. 30.
