VIDA Internacional establishes school in Honduras
Three years ago, Jose Suazo completed the missionary training course at European Bible School in Norway and felt convicted to establish a similar institution in his homeland of Honduras. Upon returning home, Jose shared his convictions with his father, who was not yet an Adventist. Jose's father felt impressed to donate a guava plantation to the project. That was the birth of VIDA Internacional, located about an hour and a half from the capital city of Tegucigalpa. Today it includes a Bible school, a lifestyle center and a tamarind plantation that is helping to support the ministry.
VIDA Internacional is a youth effort through and through. Jose is 23 and is joined in ministry leadership by Jesse Zwiker, 24, a classmate from EBS. Other young friends and classmates from various parts of the world have joined their team, bringing a variety of unique talents and abilities to the table. Their energetic efforts are yielding mature fruit.
The team has established a church in an area where previously there was not a single Adventist. With the support of LIGHT (Lay Institute for Global Health Training), they opened one of the first medical missionary training centers in Central America. In 2008, they held a one-month course that was attended by 17 international students. They now offer a one-year course that is divided into five main segments: theology, health, leadership, agriculture and general studies. Their goal is to equip students to establish other permanent centers of health and education throughout Central America and the world.
Jose and Jesse have a booth in the OCI village at the General Conference Session in Atlanta. They will be interviewed by ASI on the Adventist Mission exhibit hall stage on Wednesday, June 30, at 11:45 a.m.
