Youth For Jesus serve in Central Florida
Members of the 2010 ASI Youth for Jesus team began arriving at the LIFE (Lay Institute For Evangelism) headquarters in Lady Lake, Fla. on Wednesday, July 7. On Friday, they presented the first night of the evangelistic series they are holding in four different Central Florida locations: Leesburg, Ocala, Plymouth-Sorrento and Umatilla.
Non-member attendance at the meetings revealed the results of the Bible workers' prior efforts over the summer. There was a combined non-member attendance of approximately 150 people.
Branden Voignier, a 17-year-old from Smith's Grove, Ky., is speaking for the series being held at the Ocala Seventh-day Adventist Church. Previously, he helped present a prophecy seminar with classmates from Louisville Adventist Academy at the Louisville First Seventh-day Adventist Church. Friends who attended YFJ in Phoenix urged him to join this year's YFJ team. He says he didn't plan to come, but the Lord miraculously arranged the details. He plans to eventually become a full-time evangelist.
"It's just awe-inspiring to be here," Voignier says. "The Lord is doing this. I didn't have to do anything to get here. Please continue to pray."
LIFE director Scott Moore reported, "I was at the Plymouth-Sorento church [Saturday] night. The evangelist, Ricky Woodruff, kept pausing between phrases, unusually long pauses. After the meeting was over, I asked him what was going on. He said that he never pauses when he preaches—never. He kept asking himself, 'Why the pauses? Why the pauses?' Then after the meeting, one of his Bible Study interests said, 'Isn't it awesome? There was a lady in the mother's room translating your sermon for several people.' God worked it out so that the translator was able to translate the entire sermon!"
Non-member attendance for night three were as follows:
Leesburg—25 Visitors (7 decisions for baptism so far)
Plymouth-Sorento—30 Visitors (12 decisions for baptism so far)
Ocala—20 Visitors (6 decisions for baptism so far)
Umatilla—32 Visitors
Each morning, the YFJ students attend classes presented by the staff at LIFE. During the afternoons, they accompany the Bible workers as they go door to door and actively give Bible studies. In the evenings, the young evangelists improve their outreach and preaching skills. Throughout the process, they are being mentored by the LIFE staff, Bible workers, and Youth For Jesus staff in the work of soul-winning.
